A weekend of rehearsals
Last weekend we had rehearsals for my show… 20 hours of rehearsals.
The weekend started out by waking up at 8am, packing some last minute things and heading out to pick up the equipment trailer.
I connected the trailer to my van, then started to pull. Then, started to burn rubber. I looked at the trailer wheels and discovered that all four wheels were sunk at least half a foot into the mud below. For the next half hour I tried rocking the trailer back and forth, trying to pull it from the mud. Did I mention it was raining?
I eventually realized that the only way to move the trailer would be to unload most of it to lighten the load. We unloaded a couple thousand pounds of equipment and eventually got the trailer moving. Finally, we were on our way to the studio.
When we arrived at the studio and started loading in the equipment it started raining again. Earlier it was just raining lightly, now it’s pouring buckets. As the cases are pushed into the warehouse, they were getting soaked; thankfully nothing inside got wet!
We got all the cases inside and started rehearsing. After the disastrous start, things were finally going according to plan.
We are debuting a new illusion at the Kitchener Aud on June 25th 2011. The illusion is an original idea of mine and i’m excited to perform it on stage. During rehearsals we spent a few hours working with this new illusion and i’m really happy with how it looks. …I’m not sharing any details online quite yet. I’ll be opening the show on June 25th with this new illusion and i’m confident it will be a great new way to start the show.
Another thing that i’m excited about is our metamorphosis illusion. It’s an illusion that was designed over one hundred years ago by John Nevil Maskelyne and made famous by Harry Houdini. The reason it became famous was because it was billed as the fastest illusion in the world. We perform it as the final illusion in the show and now it’s faster than ever before. I’ll eventually post a video online but if you want to be the first to see it, come to our shows on June 25th in Kitchener.
See you at the show,
Sam
